According to the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association, the United States is currently the number one import market for Vietnam's wood and wood products, accounting for 45% of the industry's total export value with an average growth rate of 15-17%/year. In the first five months of 2019, the export value of wood and wood products is estimated at $1.839 billion, up 34.98% over the same period in 2018 and obtains 46% the industry’s total export value.
Not only is the main import market, in the opposite direction, the United States is also the number 1 supplier of wood materials to Vietnam. In the first 5 months of the year, wood imports reached USD 138.490 million, equivalent to a supply of over 420.62 thousand m3 of round timber, up 24.9% in value and 19% in volume over the same period in 2018.
Sharing at a recent workshop on wood export, Mr. Nguyen Ton Quyen - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association - said that the US is the country with the largest forest area in the world and has the largest forest product in the world with exploitation volume is not less than 300 million m3 of timber/year. The US wood raw materials always ensure clear, legal traceability, good quality and competitive prices.
